review no30 pizza king

Japan never ceases to amaze me. Last weekend I stumbled upon Pizza King a pizza restaurant opened by an Iranian brother! The entire restaurant is Persian themed with tiles, carpets and metal trays. Of course, being Persian myself, I couldn’t be happier to have stumbled upon a piece of homehome but what really impressed me about Pizza King was the hot sauce. Seldom can one find spicy cuisine in Japan. Apart from the occasional kimchi found in some supermarkets and restaurants, the Japanese don’t seem too fond of Spice. Pizza King with their four types of tabasco sauce, though, have us chilli fanatics covered.

Another detail that caught my eye was that although both English and Japanese menus were available, the names of the actual pizzas were in Persian. So, zeytoon (olive) bademjan (eggplant) and balal (corn) which brings me to their extensive VEGETARIAN options (another rarity in Japan). Cool right? Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Wake. The pizzas are big, generously topped, thin and crunchy… mama mia! or should I say bah bah bah (basically the Persian equivalent).

In addition, one can have a traditional Persian tea with dried fruits and nuts to finish off their meal! Hooray for fusion/internalization/whatever you want to call it – isn’t this all so random?
